Diamonds, Diapers, and the 7 D’s of Real Estate

People buy and sell real estate for two main reasons: money and milestones, and those motivations don’t change, regardless of interest rates or inventory.

We have written about money motivations elsewhere, so today we’ll focus on milestones, specifically the 7 D’s of real estate.

If you’re facing one of these milestones, perhaps a conversation with a member of our team will serve you well.

The 7 D’s of Real Estate

Diamonds

There’s nothing like marriage to prompt people to start thinking long term. The blending of households is a common season for people to mentally shift from renting to buying. If you’re recently engaged or married, now might be a natural time to consider buying a home.

Diapers

If diamonds didn’t do it for you, adding babies to your home might put you over the edge. 10th floor condo living was probably great as newlyweds, but now that you’ll be pushing a stroller, driving a minivan, and hosting birthday parties for gaggles of toddlers, you might be ready for a different space.

Downsizing

Needing to downsize is no joke for many people. Lawn care becomes a lot to manage, stairs become hard on the knees, and there can become less and less desire to maintain a large home that is no longer bustling with teenagers or college students home for the holidays. Downsizing is an important season of life that typically entails both selling AND buying. We can help with both.

Deployment

Military deployment or other types of job relocation often require people pack up and move on short notice. Whether your move requires the use of a contracted relocation company or offers you an alternative compensation package for moving across the country, we’re positioned to help make the home selling part of your transition as stress-free as possible.

Distress

At RAGE, we commonly say that we work with people in both happy AND sad circumstances. Sometimes life brings difficulties - job reduction or loss, health issues, relational hardships - that involve needing to sell a home prior to any potential for a happy ending. This is why we are committed to our high trust, low pressure approach to working with clients. When distress brings its own pressures, working with our team should make things easier, not worse.

Divorce

It’s not uncommon for us to get a call from an individual or couple who is navigating a divorce, and it’s important to them that they work with a real estate agent who can handle any relational tension that might be present while also guaranteeing confidentiality and sensitivity to the nuances of their situation.

Our goal is to make the real estate portion of such a difficult life transition a process you feel confident will be handled with trust, advocacy, and expertise.

Death

Finally, we regularly serve clients following the death of a family member. Oftentimes the surviving family lives out of area or has limited knowledge of the history of the home - apart from treasured memories they might have from holiday visits - and we are asked to handle the sale of the home while the family coordinates other matters of the estate. In this situation, our priority is to ensure all appropriate parties receive the communication they need and have confidence the sale of the home is being handled in alignment with the family priorities and with the care it deserves.

If you’re facing one of these milestones, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a confidential consultation. It’s our honor to serve you.

We hope this content serves you well as you seek to be savvy homeowners and make wise financial decisions for your future. If you'd like to chat further or are considering moving in the coming months or year, let's get a meeting scheduled today!
